The Benjamin Franklin Transatlantic institutes are intensive summer exchange programs hosted by a U.S. college or university. The programs are academic in nature, focusing specific theme relating to a global issue. Exchange typically last 4 weeks. During this time students and educators participate in a variety of workshops, community service activities, team building exercises, meetings with community leaders and leadership development.
Participants are students ages 16-18 with the academic aptitude required for a program of this nature. Successful candidates have a strong interest in learning more about the transatlantic relationship, the role of free press in democracy, and an interest in community service. He/she should demonstrate interest in communications, advocacy, debate, or civic participation. Qualities of an ideal candidate are maturity, strong social skills, flexibility, and open-mindedness. English fluency is required.
